How has this discovery lead to other scientific discoveries?
The discovery of X-rays opened the door to possibilities. It got people thinking that these kind of things are possible - not just something we imagine that could happen.
- The Ultrasound machine (or hydrophone as it was called) was originally used, in 1914, to detect ice burgs - after what happened with the
Titanic. It was invented by two guys by the names of Paul Langevin and Constantin Chilowsky.
The first person to use the Ultrasound machine for medical purposes was Dr. George Ludwig.
- The MRI machine (or Magnetic Resonance Imaging) was discovered by Paul Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield.
- The CAT scan (or Computed Tomography scan) was invented by Robert Ledly.
The CAT scan is actually similar to the X-ray machine just that the image is in a 3D format instead of 2D.
